Bea Mitchell The Official Website

Separation and synthesis of color was the basis for a series of mezzotints, often using images of antique dolls. I used three copper plates for a singled image; each plate for a primary color. I did the color separation mentally and with visual notes, not on the computer. In the printing on my press, one plate at a time, the colors superimposed creating the full spectrum. On each plate, the surface of which I prepared with a mezzotint rocker, I was actually carving color and value in order to control the intensity of each hue within every aspect of the image. These prints were done during most of the 1980's.

All the images are mezzotints except the first, which is a sand-grain aquatint. However, it is also created with three plates for the three primary hues.

Prices listed are for the print only. Matted and matted and framed are higher. Those prices are available on request. See Contact Information.
